MAGIC JHUMKAS: POW3R
Trans-femininity and gender nonconformity hold a power the city cannot contain. Its grids fracture under the weight of our fluidity, its boundaries cannot contain the expansive possibilities of gender defiance that exist within us. In response, it shouts, erases and burns - but we respond with fire of our own. This piece is a love letter to the rage and radiance of those who cannot be boxed in. Magic Jhumkas tells the story of a gender expansive being who channels ancestral power through a pair of enchanted jhumkas - traditional South Asian earrings transformed into cosmic weapons of resistance. Set in a speculative urban landscape, the visual series imagines the city as a living and fluid organism where rivers burst through concrete, ancestral bodies watch from the skies, and oppressive structures crumble. The work honours ancestral wisdom, transpower, and the power of collective imagination as tools for survival and transformation.
